Getting Back to Our Roots
Conservatism used to mean something: conserve the land, guard the peace, balance the books, protect the family, and answer to your own people. Here is how Kate Cotten will vote.
Conservation
★Protect Our National Parks
Theodore Roosevelt, a Republican, gave America its conservation legacy. Today that legacy is being desecrated: budgets slashed, rangers cut, maintenance abandoned, and public lands eyed for sell-off. That is not conservatism. That is stripping the family land to pay for Washington's bar tab.
- Oppose any sale, transfer, or commercial carve-up of national park land, full stop.
- Restore park staffing and clear the maintenance backlog so families can actually visit what they own.
- Defend Louisiana's own treasures, from the Creole Nature Trail to Jean Lafitte, and the wildlife refuges of the Chenier Plain.
- Treat public lands as the birthright of every American child, not a line item to raid.
Peace Through Strength
★No New Wars. No Intervention in Iran.
The strongest military in the world exists to keep us out of wars, not to hand Washington an excuse to start them. The Third District has sent its sons and daughters to two decades of conflicts that made contractors rich and made America no safer. Kate will not vote to send them into another.
- Oppose any further military intervention in Iran and any authorization that opens that door.
- Return the war power to Congress where the Constitution put it: no president of either party wages war on his own signature.
- Audit the Pentagon like any parish government would be audited, and end the blank checks.
- Take care of the veterans we already made before making any more.
Fiscal Sanity
★Get the National Debt Under Control
The national debt has blown past $37 trillion, and both parties built it. Every dollar of interest is a tax on our children that buys them nothing. A family running the Cotten's Burgers register the way Congress runs the Treasury would have been bankrupt and ashamed forty years ago.
- Vote against any budget that grows the debt without a credible path to pay it down.
- End corporate welfare first: the subsidies, sweetheart deals, and tax carve-outs for companies that need nothing.
- Protect Social Security and Medicare; seniors did not run up this bill and will not pay it.
- Demand honest accounting: no more emergency spending gimmicks that hide the real numbers.
Whole-Life, Pro-Family
★A Pro-Life Agenda for the Whole Life
If we ask mothers to choose life, we owe them a country where that choice does not mean poverty. A pro-life movement worthy of the name fights for the child at every age, and for the mother and father raising that child. This is the pro-family agenda Washington Republicans promised and never delivered.
- Paid sick leave, so no parent chooses between a sick child and a paycheck.
- Paid maternity and paternity leave, because babies need both parents home in those first weeks.
- Universal pre-K and full funding for Head Start, giving every Third District child a strong start.
- Meals for children in our schools; no child in the richest nation in history learns hungry.
- Tax credits for daycare, so working families are not paying a second mortgage for childcare.
- Healthcare families can actually afford, from the maternity ward to the nursing home, because healthcare is a pro-life issue.
Energy & Environment
★Our Energy. Our Land. Our Gulf.
Southwest Louisiana powers America and has the scars to prove it. What we will not do is become the nation's dumping ground and server farm. Outsiders want our grid for their data centers, our farmland for carbon capture pipelines, and the bed of our Gulf for storage of what nobody else will take, including proposals to entomb nuclear and toxic waste beneath Gulf waters. The answer is no.
- Oppose sweetheart deals for massive data centers that drain our grid, spike our power bills, and consume our water while employing a handful of people.
- Oppose carbon capture and sequestration projects that seize farmland and pasture through pipelines and injection wells our communities never asked for.
- Block any scheme to store nuclear or toxic waste beneath the Gulf of Mexico seabed. The Gulf feeds us; it is not a landfill.
- Champion the next generation of American energy made here: advanced fuels, waste-heat recovery, solar and wind where communities want them, and the grid upgrades to carry it, with the jobs staying in Louisiana.
- Hold polluters accountable to the communities that live downwind and downstream, because clean air and water are not partisan.
- Restore the coast and the marsh that protect us from storms; every acre of wetland lost is a levee we tore down ourselves.
The Coast
★Save Cameron Parish. Take Back the Coast.
Cameron Parish has been decimated. Rita, Ike, Laura, and Delta each took a piece, and Washington's neglect took the rest. Families that fished, ranched, and worked those marshes for generations have been scattered, while the recovery money moved slowly and the industry moved fast. Now SpaceX and other outside corporations are moving to take over stretches of our working coast, treating Southwest Louisiana like empty acreage instead of somebody's home.
- A Cameron Parish Recovery Compact: federal recovery dollars delivered on the timeline families actually live on, not a decade later.
- No corporate takeover of the coast: launch operations, terminals, and industrial expansions must answer to the parishes they land in, with binding local consent, real jobs guarantees, and full liability for damage to fisheries and wetlands.
- Protect working access to the water for shrimpers, fishermen, and cattlemen whose leases and livelihoods predate every press release.
- Make coastal restoration a national priority: the Chenier Plain shields the energy infrastructure the whole country depends on.
- Insurance reform with teeth, so coastal families can afford to insure, rebuild, and stay.
The Choice
★The Case Against Clay Higgins
Clay Higgins ran as a conservative outsider. He has governed as neither. Over nearly a decade in Washington, he has embraced the policies that raised our national debt, perpetuated war, and served as a tax on our national parks and our families. He talks like a rebel and votes like the establishment he promised to fight.
- On the debt: he backed the spending packages and budget deals that helped push the national debt past $37 trillion, mortgaging the Third District's future.
- On war: he has cheered escalation abroad and stood ready to march the country toward conflict with Iran rather than defending the Constitution's war powers.
- On the parks: he stood by, and stood with leadership, while our national parks were starved, stripped, and targeted, a betrayal of the Republican conservation legacy.
- On families: after a decade in office, Third District families still have no paid leave, no childcare relief, and no answer from their congressman beyond a social media post.
- On the coast: as outside corporations moved in on Cameron Parish and our shoreline, he provided cover instead of resistance.
This is not a fight between a Republican and a Democrat. It is a fight between a Republican who remembers what the word means and an incumbent who traded it away. On November 3, the Third District gets to choose.
